Companies often tell us that buying another wrapper offers them a great opportunity – they can be efficient because they have a pretty good idea what they need. But they can also learn about what might be new in the world of pallet wrappers since they last bought a machine.
So whether you’re adding your 2nd or 3rd machine this year to keep up with rapid growth, or looking to replace outdated semi-manual technology, take this opportunity to see what’s changed since you last bought a wrapper.
For instance, what about the flexibility and savings of automatic film cutting and clamping? Or an integrated scale? What about features that help you achieve the right amount of containment force on your loads? Dramatic productivity improvements are often possible with the latest generation of machines.
Fix the biggest problem first. You also might be adding a wrapper, but with different goals. You might have bought your last wrapper to reduce product damage – but now as you’re growing, you want that same product protection but with more output capacity. So don’t let the machine order process distract you from finding the best machine to address the primary business issue.
Typically we find that companies buy additional machines to:
- Wrap more pallets or wrap pallets in an additional location
- Reduce damage and loss
- Upgrade technology
We’ve got a bit more on each of those here.
Pre-stretching film always seems to be a cost reduction opportunity. And labor and insurance costs keep climbing. Every company’s looking to reduce costs where possible without reducing quality.
Additional and/or upgraded stretch wrapping capability may be a ticket to additional savings in your facility.
Often legacy equipment was designed to run films that weren’t nearly as advanced as today’s materials. And the operation often required much more manual involvement.
By replacing outdated technology not only can maintenance costs and downtime be eliminated or reduced, but operational costs can be reduced as well. Check out our budget and justification page for more detail on potential savings.
